Yes, detoxification is a good alternative to fad diets, and it does improve your health. But if you’re not careful, you might actually be putting yourself and the people around you in danger! Here are some simple detox diet food do’s and don’ts to keep in mind.

Don’t #1 – Don’t detox haphazardly.

There are many detox diets out there, and all you need to do is pick one that suits your lifestyle. But don’t go into detox without making sure you’re ready. Otherwise, you might make yourself more prone to illness instead of more resistant to it!

Do #1 – Study the detox processes closely.

Do the research, because some detox diets may not be suitable for people with certain conditions. And also, make sure you’re both physically and mentally fit enough to take the shock your system will take during the weeks of detoxification.

Don’t #2 – Don’t detox when you’re sick, pregnant, or otherwise with unstable health.

Obviously, you’ll be putting yourself, your baby, and the people around you at risk of illness! Rule of thumb — detox only for yourself, and only when you’re absolutely sure no one will mind you doing so!

Do #2 – Detox only when you’re sure your health is stable.

Do #3 – Get disciplined!

Most detox diets out there last a mere few weeks. To make the adjustment easier, make sure you get used to the foods you will be eating for those few weeks beforehand. These may include foods you’re not used to, such as lemonade and raw vegetables.

Don’t #4 – Don’t rely on detoxification ALONE for your good health!

It’s best to detoxify your body twice a year. But if you keep living a cheeseburger diet for the rest of the year, the toxins will keep coming back, and your health will keep going down.

Do #4 – For the rest of the year, slowly adopt a healthier diet.

A good diet based on organically-grown fruit and vegetables is the best way to go, as well as to do regular intense exercises and take multivitamin and antioxidant supplements. Detox becomes much more effective when there’s less toxins to deal with!
