I have tried several exfoliating products and I have categorized each of them so you can have a better understanding to help you make the right decision. Remember, it all depends upon your skin type and preferences.

Exfoliating Products to Choose From

Your skin has specific needs. These are the various types of exfoliants according to the needs of your skin:

  • Chemical Exfoliants
  • Enzyme Exfoliants
  • Facial Scrubs Exfoliants
  • Mechanical Exfoliants
  • Combination Exfoliants

Chemical exfoliants

are responsible for eliminating dead skin cells, excessive oil, and even sweat that has built up on your skin’s surface.

Enzyme exfoliants:

The natural enzyme-content of fruits is also effective in absorbing dead skin cells. Enzyme exfoliants are great at removing dead cells and making your face smoother.

Facial scrubs

come in a creamy lotion that has grainy content. These grains are massaged on your face to get rid of dead skin cells. Facial scrubs can be products of natural or manmade ingredients.

Mechanical exfoliants

are those that use machines to bring out unwanted dirt from your skin. This is best applied by professionals.

Combination exfoliants:

If you combine enzymes and facial scrubs or any other two products, you get combination exfoliants. If your skin is not easily irritated, these can be effective for you.

How These Products Get Into Your Skin

A thin layer of chemical exfoliant is applied to clean face and neck. The chemicals on the exfoliant do the exfoliating, so rubbing your face is not needed. Allow the exfoliating product to stay on your skin for some time. Rinse your face well.

Same goes with enzyme exfoliants. Just be careful not the get the product into your eyes. After rinsing with water, you can use a toner and moisturizer on your face.

Facial scrubs need circular motions during application. You should not press the exfoliating product on your skin too hard. Wash your face and then tone and moisturize your skin
