For centuries, people have used body detox methods to cleanse their bodies, minds, and spirits. And today, detoxification is gaining popularity as more and more people start taking their health seriously. Are you one of those people? Then here are a few good detox diets to consider.

The most common, and perhaps one of the safest ways of detoxification is through fasting. By eliminating (or at least greatly reducing) the consumption of solid foods in your diet for a few weeks, you give your body the chance to take a break from processing food and instead focus on getting rid of waste material that’s accumulated in your body over the decades.

Without any new food to process, the body focuses on cleansing itself of toxins in the blood, the digestive system, and the cardiovascular system. As a result, toxins are flushed out of the body through the colon, leaving you with much cleaner, much healthier body systems.

Fasting helps regulate blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and greatly reduces the likelihood of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and colon cancer. And as a welcome side effect, the flushing out of toxins results in weight losses of up to 2 pounds a day.

The most obvious drawback of fasting is that it can make you feel quite weak, especially if you’re used to high-calorie diets. It takes a special kind of strength to fast properly for two straight weeks, and unfortunately not everyone has that kind of tenacity!

2) Juice Diets

Juice diets, also called “liquid diets,” are a variation of fasting. Aside from drinking just water, the dieter can also drink juices made from fruit and/or vegetables. This is obviously a tastier way to detox, especially if you’ve developed a taste for fruit and vegetables.

Juice diets are somewhat easier to get used to than straight-out fasting, since it still offers a measure of nutrients and calories. It also encourages colon cleansing through the fiber naturally found in raw, unprocessed fruit and vegetables. And thanks to the fiber, you won’t feel as hungry.

3) Lemon Detox Diet

Yet another variation of fasting and juice diets is the highly-popular lemon detox diet. This detoxification method gained popularity when superstar Beyonce Knowles used it to lose weight quickly for a movie role. And, yes, it should work just as well for the rest of us.

The lemonade is a mixture of juice from half a lemon, 8 ounces of very cold water, two tablespoons of pure (again, pure) maple syrup, and a pinch of either Cayenne pepper or ground ginger. Drink eight glasses of this and nothing else for the day, and you stand to lose 12-20 pounds in two weeks through detoxification alone!lemons-167056_1280

It’s highly advisable to detoxify your body twice a year. So get used to devoting two full weeks twice a year to cleanse your body from the inside. It’ll add more healthy years to your life.
