Let’s face it — detoxification is always good, but unfortunately there are a lot of body detox myths going around about body detox. If you’re not careful, you might actually injure your body instead of helping it! Here are the top 4 body detox myths everyone needs to know about.

Detox Myth #1 – You Can Detoxify As Frequently As You Like.

Some people think that since detoxification improves so many bodily functions, it’s a good idea to adopt a detox regimen as a full-time part of their lifestyle. Be careful — detoxification is only good when you do it twice a year. Any more often, and you can put yourself in danger!

The Lemonade Detox Diet that Beyonce used to slim down for the movie “Dreamgirls,” for instance, was never meant to be a lifestyle! It’s great for slimming down and purging the body of excess toxins, but the body simply can’t survive on lemonade alone. Detoxify if you have to, but revert to a healthy, sustainable diet right after.

Detox Myth #2 – Body Detox Is The Best Way To Lose Weight.

Again, this isn’t true. While the weight loss you experience from detoxification is quick and substantial, it’s not for the long-term. And, yes, it can lead to eating disorders and digestive problems!

The best way to lose weight is, hands-down, an organic plant-based diet (fruit and vegetables), plus a vigorous exercise regimen. The less we eat of the stuff that’s bad for us (such as refined carbohydrates and trans-fatty products), the better in the long-term.

Detox Myth #3 – Body Detox Cleanses The Skin And Prevents Headaches.

This is actually a half-myth. Yes, it’s true that body detox produces clearer skin and fewer headaches (when done correctly), but these are just side effects. After all, when you drink more water and less caffeine and alcohol, you’ll naturally look and feel healthier!

Again, detox isn’t a cure-all. It’s a small but important part of an overall healthy lifestyle. It can set you on the right track in the short-term, but you’d better have a plan on how to keep the health benefits AFTER you get back to your normal routine. And that’s only done through a healthy lifestyle.

Detox Myth #4 – Body Detox Is For Everyone.

This is another half-myth in the sense that, yes, there’s a detoxification method out there that’s suited for you. But it’s very important to make sure that your body is ready for the method you’re planning to try out. Beyonce’s Lemonade diet, for instance, worked because she was young and healthy. Can you say the same for yourself? Make sure!

Remember, purging the body of toxins twice a year is always a good thing. But make sure you know what you’re doing — otherwise, you may be doing more harm than good!
